The Gate — J Calaway — Make Today Count — Wish of Fight
"You get what you fight for, not what you wish for." This principle is not just motivational speak—it's deeply rooted in biblical wisdom.
Have you ever noticed how easy it is to wish for things? We wish for better relationships, improved finances, deeper faith, or better health. But wishes alone rarely produce results. The Bible makes it clear that action, persistence, and spiritual warfare are essential components of achieving God's best for our lives.
Joshua 1:9, where God commands: "Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged, for the LORD your God will be with you wherever you go." God didn't just tell Joshua to wish for the Promised Land—He told him to be strong, courageous, and to move forward in faith.
Consider Nehemiah rebuilding the walls of Jerusalem. Nehemiah 4:17 tells us, "Those who built on the wall, and those who carried burdens, loaded themselves so that with one hand they worked at construction, and with the other held a weapon." They literally built with one hand and fought with the other! They didn't just wish for protection—they actively defended what God had called them to build.
The Apostle Paul understood this principle deeply. In 1 Timothy 6:12, he instructs us to "Fight the good fight of faith, lay hold on eternal life." And in Ephesians 6:12, he reminds us that "we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this age."
What are you merely wishing for today that God is actually calling you to fight for?
James 2:17 puts it bluntly: "Faith by itself, if it does not have works, is dead." Your faith must be accompanied by action. Your prayers must be followed by obedience.
Think about David. Before facing Goliath, he prepared. 1 Samuel 17:40 tells us he "chose five smooth stones from the stream, put them in the pouch of his shepherd's bag and, with his sling in his hand, approached the Philistine." He didn't just wish for victory—he prepared for battle with what God had given him.
And what about persistence? Luke 18:1 says Jesus told His disciples a parable "to show them that they should always pray and not give up." The widow in that parable didn't just wish for justice—she persistently fought for it until she received it.
