The Gate — J Calaway — Make Today Count — Easy of Right?

Aug 1, 2025    J Calaway

“Do what is right. Not what is easy or what is popular.” In a world full of shortcuts, social pressures, and instant gratification, this message hits hard. It’s a call to integrity, courage, and living with purpose.

“Do what is right” means choosing actions aligned with moral truth, justice, and goodness, even when they’re tough. It’s not about following the crowd or taking the path of least resistance. “Not what is easy” reminds us that the right choice often requires effort, sacrifice, or discomfort—like speaking up against injustice at work when staying silent would be simpler. And “not what is popular” challenges us to resist peer pressure or trends that might feel good in the moment but lead us astray. In essence, it’s about building character that lasts, not chasing fleeting approval.

The real point of conviction is when we know what is right and we don’t do it. We are called to actively pursue the right. If you know better and don’t act, that’s sin. It’s a reminder that inaction can be as harmful as wrong action. God calls us to step up, even if it costs us comfort or friends. (James 4:7)

It’s not always popular. Whistleblowers exposing corruption, or someone standing against workplace gossip. It might not be easy or trendy, but it brings divine favor. We are called and encouraged not to fear backlash; God’s approval is worth more than human popularity.

Doing right wasn’t popular—it could mean losing jobs, family, or even life. Yet, he promises blessing in suffering for righteousness. (1 Peter 3:14)

Everything we do and say should align with Jesus (Colossians 3:17)

It is hard to stand up or stand out, speak up or speak out but we must not, can not blend in or conform to, or quiet down. (Romans 12:2)

Speak up, Stand up and Make Today Count!
