The Gate — J Calaway — Make Today Count — Do vs know

Knowledge is undoubtedly valuable. It equips us with information, skills, and understanding. However, knowledge without the right behavior can be ineffective. The Bible provides us with numerous examples and teachings that emphasize the importance of behavior over mere knowledge.

James 1:22 says, "Do not merely listen to the word, and so deceive yourselves. Do what it says." This verse reminds us that it's not enough to just know God's word; we must also act on it. Our behavior reflects our true understanding and commitment.

Consider the parable of the Good Samaritan in Luke 10:25-37. A priest and a Levite, both knowledgeable in the law, passed by a man who had been beaten and left for dead. It was the Samaritan, someone considered an outsider, who showed compassion and helped the man. His behavior demonstrated true love and mercy, far surpassing the knowledge of the others.

In our own lives, we often encounter situations where knowledge alone isn't enough. For instance, knowing the importance of kindness is one thing, but actually showing kindness in difficult situations is what truly makes a difference. Our behavior can inspire, heal, and transform lives in ways that knowledge alone cannot.

So, how can we ensure our behavior aligns with our knowledge? Here are a few practical steps:

1. Practice What You Preach: Make a conscious effort to live out the principles you believe in. If you value honesty, be truthful in all your dealings.

2. Show Compassion: Look for opportunities to help others, even when it's inconvenient. Small acts of kindness can have a big impact.

3. Stay Humble: Recognize that we all have room to grow. Be open to learning from others and from your own experiences.

4. Reflect on Your Actions: Regularly take time to reflect on your behavior. Are your actions consistent with your values and beliefs?

Do this everyday and make ever day count!
