The Gate — J Calaway — Make Today Count -- BUSY ISN'T DILIGENT
— Always Work Hard
"Busyness is motion. Diligence is intentional, sustained effort aimed at something that matters."
KEY TRUTHS
• You can be busy all day and never be diligent. Active isn't the same as faithful.
• All hard work brings a profit; mere talk leads to poverty (Prov. 14:23). The profit is character, trust, and legacy — not just money.
• "Whatever you do" — the ordinary task and the extraordinary one get the same standard: your whole heart (Col. 3:23).
• Hard work doesn't just produce outcomes. It produces the person who produces outcomes.
LEADERSHIP REALITIES
• "Work smarter, not harder" becomes an excuse when it turns into permission to under-deliver.
• Your work is one of the loudest things about you. Skilled, faithful work gets noticed (Prov. 22:29).
• Hard work is a habit. Workaholism is a disorder. If rest stops feeling restful, you've crossed a line.
PRESENT-TENSE CHALLENGES
• Whatever your hand finds to do today, do it with all your might (Eccl. 9:10) — not your leftover energy.
• Point your effort where you're gifted. We have different gifts (Rom. 12:6). Your strengths are a multiplier.
• Separate your worth from your output. You are not what you produced today.
ACTION STEPS
• Write three goals for this quarter — one sentence each: what, how measured, by when.
• Start a done list tonight: three minutes writing what you actually finished.
• Protect your first 90 minutes for your most important, most gifted work.
• Set one stopping time this week and hold it.

Not a busier you — a more purposeful one. Make today count: better than yesterday, not near as good as tomorrow.
