The Gate — J Calaway — Make Today Count — Character
“You cannot wish for both a strong character and an easy life; the price of each is the other.” This statement invites us to reflect on the essence of character and the challenges we face in cultivating it.
Character is the bedrock of who we are. It shapes our decisions, influences our relationships, and defines our legacy. (Proverbs 10:9)
In modern society, there’s a tendency to seek comfort and ease. We often think of success as a smooth path, free from obstacles. However, as we pursue an easy life, we may inadvertently compromise our values and integrity. (James 1:2-4)
Developing a strong character often involves sacrifice. It means standing firm in our beliefs when faced with opposition, making difficult choices, and sometimes enduring hardship. As we pursue our goals, we may encounter setbacks and failures. Yet, these experiences are not in vain. (Romans 5:3-4)
Choosing to prioritize character over comfort requires conscious effort and resilience. It’s about understanding that the journey to becoming the best version of ourselves is paved with challenges. (Matthew 7:13-14)
We cannot wish for both a strong character and an easy life because the very essence of a strong character is shaped by the trials we endure. Embrace the journey, my friends. Embrace the growth. And always, always, make today count.
